City of Refuge Arrives March 9th, 2018!

Artwork by Tessimo Thompson

Hello friends,

It has been a hot minute! These past two years, we’ve been down a winding path with lots of rabbit trails, but the time has come to return to our purpose.

Our debut studio EP, City of Refuge, will be released March 9th, 2018! Your support has been everything. We truly would not have been able to make this happen without you.

Our time spent with Mike Davidson over at Plaid Dog Studios was an amazing, creative sanctuary. I’m proud of what we’ve created and so ready to share it with you.

Watch out, we’re coming.

                                all the best,

                                           Taryn, Colin, & Jason

Wild Wool (formerly the Taryn Jessen Band): The Story

Surprise! We've changed our name! I thought I'd share a bit of the story behind this change.

"Wild Wool" is the title of a beautiful 1875 John Muir essay (you can read it here) that inspired this change. Over the past two years, I have been wanting to change the name of the band, searching for something with personal meaning beyond an eponymous name.

My love for (nonhuman) animals has been a constant. So, I decided to return to school and study their incredible behaviors, the problems they face today, and how we humans might do some good.

I grew and learned so much.
I finally started putting my money where my mouth is.
I aligned my actions and my ethics.

And now, I carry that experience into all parts of life.

So, I found a name that honors my other passion and represents what I hold to be my core values. My choice of this name can be summarized in this statement from "Wild Wool":

"I have never yet happened upon a trace of evidence that seemed to show that any one animal was ever made for another as much as it was made for itself."

We have been given exactly what we need. We were perfectly designed to be who we are, as were all other animals. I marvel at this notion, and hold the deepest respect for it.

I am so ready for this new season with all of you.
